Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Studs (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our service (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as your name and email address when you create an account. We also collect content you submit to the Service and information generated through your use of it, including usage and activity data.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve the Service; to personalise your experience; to communicate with you about your account and updates; and to protect the security and integrity of the Service.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers who process data on our behalf, when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of our users and the public. These providers are bound to use the information only as needed to perform their services for us.

4. Google User Data

When you connect your Google account, Studs accesses and processes the following Google user data:

  • Identity— your Google account email address and basic profile information, used to identify your account and sign you in.
  • Google Drive file metadata (via the drive.metadata.readonlyscope) — the names and identifiers of your Google Docs, used so you can browse and choose which documents to import. We do not access the contents of files you do not select.
  • Google Docs content (via the documents.readonlyscope) — the text of the Google Docs you choose, used to generate practice questions and to mark your answers.

Use and storage. We store the content of the documents you select, along with the practice questions and study data derived from them, so the Service can function and so you can return to your material. To generate questions and feedback, the content of your selected documents is sent to Google’s Gemini AI models for processing. We store OAuth access and refresh tokens to maintain your connection. You can disconnect your Google account at any time, which revokes Studs’s access to your Google data.

Sharing. We do not sell your Google user data and we do not use it for advertising. We share it only with the AI and infrastructure providers necessary to operate the Service (such as Google’s Gemini API for question generation), and only to provide the features described above. We do not use Google user data to develop, improve, or train generalised or non-personalised AI or machine-learning models. Humans do not read your Google user data except where you give consent, where necessary for security purposes (such as investigating abuse), or to comply with applicable law.

Limited Use. Studs’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Third-Party Services

The Service may integrate with third-party services that you choose to connect, such as Notion. When you do, we access only the information needed to provide the Service’s features. Those services’ handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We will delete or anonymise your information when it is no longer required, subject to any legal obligations to retain it. When you disconnect a connected account or delete your Studs account, we delete the associated data, including stored document content and the tokens used to access it.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, please contact us.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age required to consent to use online services in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Contact

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us.
